Hail Mary Prayer

Hail Mary Prayer

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.

When to say the Hail Mary in the rosary?

The Hail Mary is one of the central prayers in the Rosary, a form of devotion in the Catholic Church. In the traditional structure of the Rosary, the Hail Mary is repeated multiple times while meditating on different events in the lives of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. The Hail Mary is recited during two main components of the Rosary: the decade and the closing.

  1. Decade:

    • The primary structure of the Rosary is divided into five decades. Each decade consists of ten Hail Mary prayers. The Hail Marys are said while meditating on one of the mysteries of the Rosary - events from the lives of Jesus and Mary.
    • For each decade, the Hail Mary is initiated by the leader (or individual) saying "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus."
    • The others in the group or individual then respond, "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen."
  2. Closing:

    • After completing all five decades, the Rosary typically concludes with several concluding prayers, including the Hail Holy Queen.
    • The final part of the Rosary often includes the prayer "Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy..." followed by "O God, whose only begotten Son..."

So, in summary, the Hail Mary is recited throughout the Rosary, especially during the decades while meditating on the mysteries and as part of the closing prayers.
